A lot has been said about the loudness war, there are a lot of Youtube videos on the subject if you are unfamiliar with it but the simplest way to describe it is the sacrifice of audio quality for the increase of loundness on CDs and in digital audio files. The Oasis album "(Whats The Story) Morning Glory?" became the poster child for it during the 90's but even though that album had already had it's dynamics compressed it didn't stop them from compressing them even further for the 2014 Remaster.

As you can see from the picture the compression is more severe on the 2014 remaster compared to the 1995 version. The remastered version also plays slower for some reason. There is however a more shocking example to be taken from the 2014 Deluxe Edition of "(Whats The Story) Morning Glory?"and it's found on the second disc containing the B-sides:

The 2014 version of (You've Got To) Hide Your Love Away was so brickwalled that they had to reduce its volume because it was too loud. The result is this thin band of compressed audio with all it's dynamics crushed out of it. According to TT ‘Dynamic Range’ Meter the dynamic range of the original 1995 version was a very healthy DR12,while the 2014 version has been reduced to DR6 (anything below a DR8 is considered bad). Half of the dynamic range is gone and you can tell when you listen to it, it sounds flat, cut off and compressed. it sounds crap.
So what's that got to do with "Where The Magic Sleeps" and what is it anyway? Well the truth is Noel Gallagher's "Chasing Yesterday" is a brickwalled nightmare. The album averages a dynamic range of DR6 with some tracks as low as DR5 so I've tried my best to undo the damge. The result is "Where The Magic Sleeps":

The download contains the entire album (plus B-sides and some rarites) with an average dynamic range if DR11 with some tracks as high as DR12. You should be able to hear that although quieter the album now sound a lot cleaner.
